Narcissus pseudonarcissus is the wild British native daffodil which will spread by self-sowing in grass and beneath trees and shrubs. It's the longest lasting, easiest and most successful daff to grow for naturalising.
Genus | Narcissus |

Type | Hardy Perennial |
Common Name | Daffodil |
Border Position | Front |

Soil Type | Acid, Alkaline, Chalky, Clay, Fertile, Neutral, Sandy |
Scent | Scented |
Site | Full Sun, Part Shade |
Height | 30cm (12in) |
Spacing | Plant pointy end up, 10-15cm (4-6in) inches deep with three to four inches between each bulb. |
Care Tips | Plant anytime from August - November. They are very tolerant bulbs. |
Flowering | March |
Vase Life | Narcissi make great cut flowers lasting up to a week in the vase. I love them jumbled up in large jugs on the table. Be careful mixing with other flower types as their stems give off a compound that is toxic to other flowers and soak their stems in warm water before displaying to stop the 'goo' from running out. |

Narcissus pseudonarcissus reviews
Good result
Reviewed 18th March 2017 by Peter Harris Planted 100 bulbs last autumn and all seem to have come up and flowered OK which I wasn't expecting after reading about their other person's experience! |
Bee breakfast
Reviewed 15th March 2017 by Julie Well I'm chuffed with mine. Bought at the last minute in the sale, all seem to be flowering mid March in a soggy alluvial clay soil lawn that I'm trying to improve with grass cuttings and spiked shoes. Plus the first one out was occupied by a honey bee. I just guessed the depth. I'll be looking for more bargains this year. |
Pathetic pseudonarcissus
Reviewed 20th October 2014 by Jenny Mulligan Loving the idea of having creeping spread of pseudonarcissus I have bought and planted these year on year for the last few years ... and have been really disappointed as very few come up and most of those that do are blind. I keep hoping that they will mature beneath my soil and surprise me one early Spring day. Shall I give them another chance I am asking myself? Reply from the Sarah Raven Team:"Thank you for comments. The pseudonarcissus can take a year or two to settle, and once established flowering will increase year on year. It's normal for only a few to appear and not flower completely. Make sure that the leaves that come up and allowed to die back to feed the bulb for the following year, as you would do with any other bulb. We hope for a gorgeous display in the coming year!"
