Sowing, Seeds, Planting Plant just under the soil surface after the last frosts. Alternativley pot them up undercover March or early April in a generous pot (at least 2 litre) filled with multi-purpose potting compost. Place them in a light, frost-free place and keep the compost moist. Pinch out their growing tips when they have reached about 8" tall. They will have formed bushy plants by the time the frosts have ended and will be in flower by the beginning of July. If you don’t have anywhere to grow the potted tubers, you can put them straight into the ground when the frosts are nearly over, mulching them or protecting with a cloche or protective horticultural fleece if the foliage appears before the frosts are over, but this will delay flowering.
Care Tips Support with a stout stick, tie in every couple of weeks. In the south you can mulch deeply and overwinter them in the ground, alternatively, lift and overwinter your dahlias frost free undercover.
Flowering July - November
Vase Life Only pick dahlias in full flower. Recut the hollow stem ends under water to avoid airlocks.
Cooking Notes All dahlia flowers are edible. I use the petals scattered over salad and to decorate a range of puddings.

It's been a great year in the garden. Lots of glorious flower but none better than this one. Absolutely beautiful. Colour shape longevity all amazing. Love it.

again, would have given it no stars but program would not accept comments unles I awarded a star. I had one tuber that didnt look too good when I potted it up and it did nto grow atall. I contacted you and you sent a second one. That did not grow either. I contacted you again and it was too late for you to send me another for a third attempt, so you refunded me the cost. That was fine as far as it went, but I was left with a gap that needed filling and eventually I bought a potted dahlia from another supplier but not the variety that I had planned for. I have grown dahlias for the past 40+ years so it is not that I am a novice.

Your catalogues are beautiful and full of planting tips and suggestions.Your customer service team are helpful and polite when I have contacted them concerning several disappointing plants over the last few years. The trouble is that your plants do not seem to be of a reliable standard. Those that are, are really beautiful but increasingly there are duds among the jewels.

I am keen gardener but fear it is unlikely that I will continue to order plants from you. Which I regret. I like to plan my beds and see them develop through the seasons.

Dahlia Perch Hill
The first tubers I got were very small, thin and not at all acceptable.
I asked for them to be replaced which you did.
The replacements were much the same as the first ones and they never produced a plant.!

I was very disappointed with my tubers when they arrived in the spring as they looked poor quality. Of three tubers only two have produced any flowers and one plant is better than the other. So only one out of three plants is really any good. I would not have expected this from Sarah Raven.

This did not put out any leaves at all; it has done nothing all summer; just remained inert despite constant care

The tuber failed to grow at all. When I took it out of the pot to throw it away the tuber had completely rotted. I took photographs so could email these if required. I have grown dahlias for a few years so it was not lack of experience. The tubers I purchased from a well-known DIY store have grown beautifully.
