Narcissus – or daffodils – are very tolerant bulbs and we should all grow plenty of them. They give a great performance early in the year and if you choose carefully you can have colour in your garden and highly scented flowers to pick from early March. Unlike many tulips, these get better, and the groups bigger and stronger year after year. You can't go wrong.

This collection contains 15 or 30 bulbs each of:

Common Name Daffodil
Border Position Container
Bulb Size mixed
Soil Type Acid, Alkaline, Chalky, Clay, Fertile, Neutral, Sandy
Scent Scented
Site Full Sun, Part Shade
Height 15cm (6in)
Spacing Plant pointy end up, 10-15cm (4-6in) inches deep with three to four inches between each bulb.
Care Tips Plant anytime from August - November. They are very tolerant bulbs.
Flowering March - April
Vase Life Narcissi make great cut flowers lasting up to a week in the vase. I love them jumbled up in large jugs on the table. Be careful mixing with other flower types as their stems give off a compound that is toxic to other flowers and soak their stems in warm water before displaying to stop the 'goo' from running out.

My tulips, after a sad result last year with undrainable tubs, came up so beautifully that my heart was in my mouth every time I looked at them. Because the 5 different varieties were planted at different levels in the tubs, the pleasure came in waves with each variety giving a different joy as they flowered in succession. I shall certainly repeat the experience with two of the tubs (that held narcissi ) being moved to my back garden and selecting the dark varieties for the front and the Belle epoque ones at the back I shall photograph them next year, but this year I selfishly kept the pleasure to myself.
