More Details

Flower Sprouts, or Kalettes, have been bred from crossing kale and Brussels sprouts. They are dense with minerals and nutrients including powerful antioxidants.

Genus Brassica oleracea
Type Hardy Annual
Soil Type Fertile
Site Full Sun
Moisture Well-drained
Spacing 60-90cm (24-36in)
Sowing, Seeds, Planting Sow February-April, two seeds 1cm (½in) deep into a pot/module of compost. Remove weaker seedling if both grow. Plant out June-July when seedlings are 15cm (6in) high. Firm the soil well around plant base to prevent wind rock. Or sow direct into prepared seed bed late March-mid April, in rows 15cm (6in) apart, then transplant when 15cm (6in) tall into final position. Protect against cabbage white butterflies and harvest plant tops too.
Care Tips A light frost will not harm the plants and will improve their flavour.
Harvesting Throughout the late autumn and winter. Harvest florets when they are approximately 1½–2in (3-5cm) in diameter.
Cooking Notes These are lovely steamed, microwaved, stir fried, boiled or blanched.
