Sarah's Favourite Container Potato Collection

A few years ago, we did a trial at Perch Hill of the best potatoes for growing in bags. This system works brilliantly, and means you won't have to use up precious space in the garden.

Plant February-April in a potato planter/bag.

These seed potatoes can be planted in February-March for cropping in May and June, or in March-April for cropping right through the summer.

This collection contains 1kg each of:
  • 'Winston' – excellent potato for baking, chips and mash
  • 'Ratte' – delicious, nutty taste like chestnuts, firm and waxy
  • 'Kestrel' – supremely tasty, waxy, mid-season potato

Home-grown potatoes are easy to grow and taste so much better. Grow your own salad and vegetables and you'll always have something for supper.

Care Tips

When the shoots first appear draw the earth from between the rows to cover them. This encourages underground shoots and more tubers. Add in lots of well rotted manure the previous autumn (not too fresh).
