Growing in a large pot in our Dutch Yard, this was in my top three new designs from our container collection trials last summer and autumn

'Adam's Choice' (named after my husband who spotted it on one of our dahlia-seeking trips) matches perfectly with the flower tips of 'Spanish Flag'. The stems and heart of the dahlia flowers chime brilliantly with this elegant foliage persicaria. This looked good until November.

  • 1 x 3L pot each of Dahlia 'Adam's Choice'
  • 3 x 9cm pots each of Persicaria runcinata 'Purple Fantasy'
  • 5 x jumbo seedlings each of Ipomoea lobata

Dahlias need rich, moist soil and plenty of sun. Persicaria adds lush foliage, while ipomoea offers a vibrant vertical accent. Stake taller plants and water regularly to prevent wilting.
