The classic Welsh Poppy grows happily in sun or shade and will self-sow into nooks and crannies to soften paths, patios and walls. No garden should be without it!

Sowing, Seeds, Planting Sow February-May or September-October on the surface of moist seed compost. Cover thinly and place in a cold frame, or a sheltered position outside. May require a few cycles of warm weather followed by cooler conditions, before germination occurs, which can take several months. May also be sown direct where they are to grow. Prefers a deep, moist and fertile soil in a sheltered, partially shaded position – ideal for a woodland border.
Care Tips Mulch in spring with a well-composted leaf mould and add a slow release fertiliser.
