A delicious new introduction, this clear and cool, ice-blue salvia has large flowers from midsummer lasting almost until Christmas. What's particularly special about this hybrid is that it's very compact, with self-branching, bold, triangular foliage. This makes it ideal for container planting, but it's also fabulous in the border and, treated with just a little care over winter by way of a thick mulch and good drainage, it is likely to be perennial, too.

Care Tips | Give plants a good watering rather than just a little at a time, but be sure to add grit to your soil to avoid waterlogging over winter. Since patens is a tuber forming salvia, treat it like a dahlia and mulch heavily in late autumn to protect from cold weather and keep the soil as warm as possible. |
