Operations Manager

Marlborough Office

Job objectives:

  • Ensure Sarah Raven delivers an end-to-end best in class customer service experience.
  • Organise supply chain to ensure competitive delivery promises can be met and exceeded.
  • Help to be the voice of the customer internally, championing the customers' requirements and needs.
  • Working with the wider team to develop appropriate metrics to ensure the business has weekly visibility of customers service experience.
  • Ensure all services are delivered as cost effectively as possible, monitoring and reporting weekly on key cost drivers while driving the business to search for cost efficiencies.
  • Ensure IT systems are working effectively, and developed as required to fit the needs of the business.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage customer service in house and out of house, ensuring as far as possible that the customer experience is seamless between the two facilities.
  • Monitor KPI's and ensure that the key targets are met.
  • Manage all fulfilment services ensuring appropriate SLA's are in place, and provide regularly updated forecasts to our partners to ensure fast and efficient service to customers.
  • Constantly review and manage all carrier services ensuring that we have the most appropriate services to deliver our goods safely and on time to our customers as cost effectively as possible.
  • Ensure IT systems are fully functioning, including all system interfaces, and project manage any system changes as required.

Skills and experience:

  • Track record of operational management with evidence of delivering excellent customer service.
  • Experience of working in a head office environment.
  • Experience of complex IT systems.
  • Track record of financial control.
  • Highly organised individual with previous exposure to a variable, fast paced environment.
  • Strong leadership skills, both verbal and written, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Willingness to travel.

Senior Buyer

Marlborough Office

Sarah Raven is one of the fastest growing gardening companies in the UK, with an award winning website and catalogue, and a passion for product and service. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced buyer to join us through our next phase of growth.

The role: 

  • Preparation for range reviews, including understanding analysis and trends, and sourcing new products, under the direction of the Buying Manager for the Seeds and House Plant Gifts ranges.
  • Ensure Buying Sheets are set up and completed ready for handover in line with the critical path.
  • Be aware of competitor activity and market trends.
  • Ensure sell prices are competitive and margins are in line with company targets.
  • Develop relationships with, and visit key suppliers.
  • Visit Perch Hill at regular intervals to see results of seeds trials.
  • Work closely with the merchandising team to ensure good stock availability.
  • Work closely with the web marketing team to ensure products are merchandised effectively and accurately online.
  • Arrange and plan photoshoots for House Plant Gift ranges.
  • Line manager to Buying Assistant.

What you need to be successful:

  • Experience in a similar buying role, mail order/e-commerce.
  • Ability to take direction as well as use initiative, see things through to completion.
  • Excellent communication and motivation skills.
  • Strong numerate and analytical skills.
  • A quick thinker with the ability to react and able to think ahead.
  • Intermediate Excel skills.
  • Be highly organised, with excellent attention to detail and ability to work to a critical path.
  • Commercially aware and proactive.
  • High level of professional integrity and strong sense of responsibility.

Horticultural Buying Assistant

Marlborough Office

Sarah Raven is one of the fastest growing gardening companies in the UK, with an award winning website and catalogue, and a passion for product and service. We have an exciting opportunity for a Horticultural Buying Assistant to join us through our next phase of growth.

The role:

  • Complete Buying Sheets each season, requesting photos from suppliers and collating product information from suppliers, preparing sheet for sign off by Senior Buyer
  • Assist with sourcing/resourcing top-up stock mid-season
  • Complete report administration to enable seasonal reports to be produced
  • Keep records of samples for trials, track progress and record results of trials
  • Carry out day to day web checks and product presentation and information online
  • Maintain log of anything flowering incorrectly and communicate issues to suppliers
  • Be aware of current market trends and competitor activity
  • Check invoices and credits each week against agreed cost prices and resolve queries before passing to Accounts team
  • Manage library of competitors and supplier catalogues

What you need to be successful:

  • A love of flowers and plants, but no horticultural qualification is required
  • Good communication skills
  • Good to intermediate Excel skills
  • Be highly organised
  • Be able to demonstrate excellent attention to detail and ability to work to multiple deadlines
  • High level of professional integrity and strong of responsibility

Customer Service Phone Adviser

Marlborough Office

Sarah Raven is one of the fastest growing gardening companies in the UK, with an award-winning website and catalogue, and a passion for product and service. We are looking for a full time, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, Customer Service Phone Adviser based at our offices in Marlborough. 

The role:

  • Taking orders over the phone and processing on our database
  • Delivering excellent service to customers and answering their queries
  • Using our computer system Elucid
  • Being very familiar with our products, the seasonal catalogues and the website

What you need to be successful:

  • The role would suit someone with previous customer service or call centre experience
  • Good communication skills
  • Confidence on the telephone
  • Be organised and patient
  • Having an interest in gardening is ideal

Finance Controller

Marlborough Office

A great opportunity to join a well established and rapidly growing business, reporting to the Commercial Director and supporting the management team, you will take responsibility for managing the financial operations of the company.

The role:

  • Ensure Sarah Raven has all appropriate financial controls in place and give the board confidence that our accounting policies and practices are robust, fit for purpose and stand up to outside scrutiny.
  • Preparing and reviewing month end balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Preapring and reviewing month end analysis of expense accounts.
  • Effectively manage 3rd party audit of accounts.
  • Short and long term financial planning and analysis.
  • Work with our third party accountants to produce monthly management accounts.
  • Monitor all costs lines in the P&L giving managers the tools to benchmark and regularly get quotes across key costs lines.
  • Produce monthly KPI packs and review with department heads prior to release.
  • Ensure integrity of financial reporting across the company.
  • Payroll management.
  • VAT and sales tax returns management.

What you need to be successful:

  • Qualified ACA accountant (or equivalent).
  • Technically skilled - accounting and tax requirement.
  • Very strong analytical skills.
  • Ideally experience in consumer business.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Strong leadership qualities.
  • Sound knowledge of accounting fundamentals.
  • Auditing experience.
  • Proficiency in accounting software.
  • Ideally IT literate.
