The well-known peppery salad leaf, which is good raw, or wilted over pasta or pizza. It runs up to flower quickly in the heat, so don't grow it in the summer, but sow it in the autumn or end of winter for picking in the autumn, winter and early spring. .

Sowing, Seeds, Planting Direct sow in lines or blocks straight into the ground in February-April and August-October. Sown in autumn, under cover or cloches it will provide valuable winter salad. Easy germination.
Care Tips It may get infested with flea beetle which leaves lots of tiny holes all over the leaves. Protect with a physical barrier of fleece from sowing on. Water regularly to prevent it becoming too hot and sour.
Storing Cut 2 hours before eating and submerge in cold water. Store in a plastic box for 2-3 days in the fridge.
Harvesting 6-8 weeks from sowing. Cut above bottom set of leaves. If you cut below, you'll kill the plant. Leaf production: 3 months. Keep picking regularly.
Cooking Notes Flowers are edible.

I bought these to sow in my newly purchased raised beds. Reliable to germinate and quick to grow, they have a lovely peppery flavour. Am keen to sow another row to give me a constant supply.
