Description

Many of the tagetes family are too dwarf, pert and prissy for me, but not this one, standing 18 inches tall with an endless production of mahogany crimson cut flowers, which are also edible.

This is a companion plant par excellence for under-planting tomatoes or cucumbers in the greenhouse, to keep them aphid-free. It’s tall, but not too tall and elegant not dumpy. A much-loved multi-purpose plant.

The vibrant flowers are edible and can be used much as you would calendula or viola flowers, either to decorate salads, cakes and puddings, or floated in drinks and cocktails.

Care Tips

Feed and water marigold plants regularly, particularly during hot, dry periods. Regular picking or deadheading will encourage further production of blooms throughout the summer.
