Sweet Pea 'Matucana' reviews
Reviewed 2nd January 2021 by Pearl I have purchased Matucana Sweet Pea previously. |
Reviewed 2nd May 2020 by Alison Really quick service, plants were well packed and great quality. Would recommend to anyone. |
Reviewed 19th September 2019 by Elisabeth These have been flowering non-stop for a good 4 months now (with regular picking) and are still going. The flowers have a wonderful, strong perfume and beautiful vivid colour. My plants have powdery mildew, despite frequent watering, but this doesn't seem to have slowed them down. I grew them from seed and the germination rate was decent, about 75%. Will be growing them again next year! |
Reviewed 27th August 2019 by Adelle I grow sweet peas every year with no problems. First year I have tried Matucana- out of the whole pack only 2 germinated. Even they're disappointing . |
Reviewed 5th August 2019 by Angela Beautiful scent, but has only produced short stems. |
Reviewed 1st August 2019 by Julie Beautiful scent and lovely long stems |

Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Pamela The above critique applies to all four packets of seeds. |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Colette I bought this late in the season at sale price. The plants were bigger than expected, strong and healthy, They are now flowering profusely, They have long stems when picked, are very pretty and my house smells lovely. |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Barbara Excellent value for money. The seedlings arrived in a healthy condition and grew into robust plants. Their fragrance is intense and after 6 weeks from the first flowering we are still picking them. Their colour and fragrance is as described in the online catalogue. |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Trudy Quick delivery and good quality plants |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Ruth The plants arrived swiftly and in good condition. However, the flowering has been meagre and the fragrance non-existent. Rather a disappointment. |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Rebecca I had about 75% success rate with these seeds which was acceptable. The seeds that did germinate have produced healthy beautiful plants though. |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Debbie Beautiful seedlings. Very small to start. But now beautiful |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Jennifer Good service. Excellent plants. Have been flowering well for sometime now, lots of lovely flowers and excellent scent. |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Antonia Good germination and scent |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Carole Sadly non germinated. I grow sweet peas successfully, but had not tried this type before. The seeds were replaced and I'll have another go with an Autumn sowing |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Alison I love this variety because of its two-tone appearance. They are once again doing great in the garden. |

These seedlings arrived looking fresh and strong. Unfortunately the local weather was not good at that time and I did not plant them immediately. However I did plant them almost 2 weeks after they arrived and they are still blooming now in mid November. |
Reviewed 15th November 2018 by Beverly One of my favourite sweet peas. The seedlings were healthy and well packaged when delivered. Even though they were planted out a lot later than they should have been, flowered well, and there are some still coming now. I will definitely be re-ordering again next year, but will plant out earlier! |
Reviewed 14th November 2018 by Lesley Sadly only two seedlings were Matucana! All the rest were white. Obviously I didn’t realise this until they came into bud and by then it was too late to replace them. I rang to report the problem and was given a full refund but my summer display was ruined. This is the first time it has happened as I’ve had Matucana or Cupani from you in previous years and have been delighted with them as they are really good plants which are perfect for the position I plant them but this last summer was a real disappointment. You may be interested to know that the two purple plants performed well despite the heatwave while the white sweet peas were very poor although equally well -watered. Matucana/Cupani are really robust which is why I choose them. In addition to their wonderful perfume of course! Hoping for better luck next year....... |

VERY PERFUMED AND VIBRANT. If there was a negative, it would be that the majority of the stems were very short. |

Stunning Scent
Reviewed 26th August 2018 by Ann Satur Although these got off to a shaky start with only 50% germination possibly due to compost, once they were in the ground they took off and have been amazing. I have had cut flowers in the house every day throughout the summer from approximately 20 plants with few extra for friends and neighbours. |
Amazing!
Reviewed 31st October 2017 by Susan Freeman Sown in spring, these have been the best scented sweet peas I've ever grown, richly coloured and flowering in profusion from June to September. I think they only finished flowering when they did because I stopped picking them regularly and they went to seed (I couldn't keep up with the amount of flowers that just kept coming). The flower stems got shorter as the summer went on which stretched my imagination for vase substitutes, but my house has been constantly beautifully fragranced. I will be sowing them in the autumn this time in order to get slightly earlier flowers next year. |
Absolute jewels!
Reviewed 13th September 2017 by Alice Ezzedine I only bought four of these seedlings and lost one immediately to the snails, however the remaining three have filled me with joy all season with their irridescent jewel colours cheering me up daily .At the height of the season I was cutting 50 stems a time and they are still delivering, allbeit with shorter stems. An absolute must for next year. |
So beautiful!
Reviewed 8th July 2017 by Sophie I bought these as seedlings having never had much luck growing from seed. I will buy these again! I can't believe how many beautiful little vases of sweet peas these have produced for me already (early July) and they don't look like slowing down anytime soon! |
