Sowing, Seeds, Planting | Surface sow the seed and press lightly into the soil. Seeds need light to germinate. Prick out each seedling as it becomes large enough to handle, grow on into a 9cm pot. Plant out in spring once hardened off. If you do not see any or very little germination expose the seeds to a fortnight of cooler conditions to break any dormancy cycle. Don't give up on them as spring temperatures will also help break the dormancy. |
Care Tips | Echinacea do not like to be crowded, give them space to establish in your garden and avoid winter wet spots and heavy mulching over crowns in winter. Once planted, they are best left alone — they do not transplant well. Deadhead to encourage flowering into the autumn after the main August-September season. Propagate by rooting cuttings from late autumn to early winter. |
