More Details

We love this bellflower which carpets and softens the base of our well-head here and like good-old Erigeron karvinskianus, thrives in the cracks of paths, walls and steps, with no soil. In bloom for months, just tidy it up (with scissors) every once in a while and it will quickly come back and flower again.

Sowing, Seeds, Planting Sow under cover in spring or sow in autumn for earlier flowers the following year. Sow seed thinly into trays of moist seed compost. High temperatures can delay germination, if seedlings have not appeared after a month, move to a cooler position (e.g. a cold frame, unheated greenhouse or sheltered spot outside) for a period of 2 to 4 weeks before moving back to warmth. Once seedlings appear, pot on into individual pots or modules and grow on in cooler conditions. Harden off and plant out once roots have filled the pot. Grow in moist but well-drained soil, in sun or partial shade. Choose the position carefully as it will spread by underground runners.
Care Tips Prefers a lightly shaded position with a moist but well-drained soil. Allow to trail from pots or grow as groundcover at the front of a border, will also creep across walls and paving. Requires very little attention once established but an occasional trim will keep plants looking tidy.
Flowering May - September (the following year from autumn sowings).
