Sowing, Seeds, Planting | Sow under cover in seed trays or gutters in March and September. Direct sow April-August. |
Care Tips | Incorporate a slow-release fertiliser or give a balanced liquid feed every 2-3 weeks. Deadhead or pick regularly to prolong flowering and maintain a compact shape. If plants become leggy, a mid-season chop in July to 5cm (2in) above ground-level will help promote bushy re-growth. |
Flowering | Almost all year. |
Vase Life | This should last 7-10 days in a vase. |
Harvesting | Flower production: 4 months - keep picking and they will keep flowering. |
Cooking Notes | These flowers are edible, and are fantastic on top of a salad or as a cake decoration. |

Hearts Ease (Viola tricolor) reviews
Reviewed 8th August 2019 by Marion Good seed and flowering plant, very small plant even now, but maybe due to weather conditions. |
Beautiful little flowers
Reviewed 16th July 2017 by Emily Bryan Really very easy to grow and they look so pretty in my terracotta bowl. I will certainly be using them in salads, simply gorgeous. |
