Deep orange, with crimson backs that match the crimson centre of the flower.
I use them in brilliantly coloured arrangements and eat the petals in salads. This is also lovely dipped in batter for garden Fritto Misto or make the flowers into excellent and effective, natural calendula skin-healing cream.
Line veg garden paths with this to attract aphid-eating hoverflies. It will lightly self-sow.

Calendula officinalis 'Indian Prince' reviews
Reviewed 2nd May 2020 by Alison Really quick service, plants were well packed and great quality. Would recommend to anyone. |
Reviewed 20th April 2020 by Simon Overpriced, unhelpful and rude, I won’t be using them again. |
Reviewed 4th November 2019 by Esther Easy peasy and a good cut flower. |
Reviewed 13th August 2019 by Karen Love these marigolds - my favourite variety |
Reviewed 5th August 2019 by Pauline Good height and very colourful. Flowers not a big as expected. Will use them again though. |
Reviewed 3rd August 2019 by Fiona Just what I wanted. Tall open flower, something of the old- fashioned, but a touch of exotic too. |
Reviewed 1st August 2019 by Rosie Were slow to grow at first but I may have sowed too early (March) however they are now blooming and are such a fantastic vibrant colour. |
Reviewed 1st August 2019 by Mrs Hunter good quality seedlings, have transplanted well. |
Reviewed 1st August 2019 by Rona My favourite Calendula for depth of colour; really striking. Grew some in large containers together with Centaurea cyanus 'Black Ball' – delighted with the colour combination. |

Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Tamsen These are looking fantastic, really brighten up the garden |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Jackie I haven’t had much luck with seeds but these have taken and some have now flowered so I am very pleased. |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Carolyn Planted a bit late and only just grown to around 10 cms. Probably wont flower. |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Jackie Some came up as ‘original’ looking marigolds - rather than the black prince dark centre but not many. |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Nikki These always look stunning and have a long flowering period. |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Ruth Well-packaged but when planted out, took ages to start growing and are not particularly robust plants. Last year, I bought some seedlings that someone had grown using Sarah Raven seeds, which grew into flourishing plants, with beautifully-coloured flowers (the reverse of which were a deep bronze). This year’s plants are just not as good, and the flowers are disappointing, too: smaller and the reverse of the petals is not such a good colour. |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Ian The plants were 'blooming' jmagnificent - best marigolds I have ever seen. My soil needed to be a bit better to keep them going so I will get working on that.. |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Josephine Very chunky large plants, excellent quality. Well packed in their little plastic containers. Performed very well, lots of large double orange flowers. |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Diana Plants are pathetic, poor spindly growth despite pinching out. Flowers are very small, almost unrecognisable as calendula, and dirty yellow, definitely not like Indian Prince. I grew them to make my calendula cream, which is now impossible this year. Very disappointed. |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Diana Easy to grow. Great colour. RObust. |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Catherine always reliable easy to grow from seed, and which brighten the border. Wish they didn't need staking but otherwise perfect. |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Mary-Jane Very good strong plants inside and outside |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Sheila Very healthy plug plants which grew into beautifu plants which have given masses of colour. |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Steph Superb Seekings the seedlings have outdone themselves, as long as seed heads removed they have flowered continually, look fabulous in my tiny new garden.sadly the app review link doesn't work so I couldn't add image. If customer service corrected this it would be good thing. |

Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Joyce Really disappointed with these plants - very leggy and too much foliage for such small flowers - not for me. |
Reviewed 21st November 2018 by Jane Arrived carefully packaged five healthy seedlings. Thrived all summer and were a good choice given the heat this year. Teamed them with salvias (bought at the same time),totally tangerine geums, and Mels marmalade dahlias, and grasses. |
Reviewed 14th November 2018 by Miriam Flowered profusely throughout the summer and into Autumn |
Reviewed 14th November 2018 by Alison lots of lovely colour in the border - despite the heat. |

Reviewed 19th September 2018 by Frances These jumbo seedlings produced an abundance of flowers and in fact are still producing beautiful flowers. A great show in the garden. |
Reviewed 19th September 2018 by Sarah It takes so very long for anything to be dispatched which is extremely disappointing. So much so that I am reluctant to order anything further. Reply from the Sarah Raven Team:"We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with our despatch times. Please be advised that we always send out our plants at the best time for planting and as these are Half Hardy Annuals, we send these out once the weather has warmed up. In this case, they were sent out in March to ensure it was not too cold for them to be planted. I do hope this clarifies matters for you." Posted 7th November 2018 |
Reviewed 19th September 2018 by Susan Brilliant healthy, long flowering plants. They reward dead heading with extra vigour |
Reviewed 12th September 2018 by Elizabeth Strong plants which have grown well. |
Reviewed 6th September 2018 by Helene The plants grew well, but there were problems with the delivery (not done according to instructions given on placing the order). |
Astonishing profusion of blooms, month after month
Reviewed 13th September 2017 by Tim
An absolute embarrassment of dizzy colour, the deeply rich orange flower heads bobbing away to the beat of the breeze for week after week and month after month. Quite glorious. |
Deep rich orange
Reviewed 15th July 2017 by Lucy Craig Much deeper and richer in colour than standard calendula but retaining the brightness to make the really stand out in the border. I mixed them with deep reds, crimsons and Frosted Explosion grasses and they look fantastic (in my humble opinion!). |
