Sowing, Seeds, Planting | Sow October-December or January-April, 2 seeds into 1 rootrainer. When roots fill container, pot on 2 seedlings together into a 1 litre pot. Pinch out tips when plants have 4 pairs of leaves. If autumn sown, overwinter in a light, cool place. Sweet peas often have a hard seed coat so it may help to soften the seed before sowing. Do this by placing seeds on damp kitchen paper and putting somewhere warm until seeds swell or sprout. You can also make a small nick in the seed coat to help moisture enter the seed before sowing. |
Care Tips | Remove the climbing tendrils as they grow. Tie the stem into your framework on a regular basis. Can be grown in deep container pots up a climbing frame. Find out how to cordon train your sweet pea in Sarah's how-to guide. |
Flowering | May - September |

Reviewed 2nd September 2018 by Michele I was looking forward to a bountiful display but even though I planted them in a spot that got sun until two pm and harvested the few flowers regularly there were hardly any flowers particularly on the deep purple one. Reply from the Sarah Raven Team:"Thank you for your review. Sweet peas do best in a full sun position so it may be worth planting them in a different area next summer. We have refunded you for the seedlings and apologise for the disappointment." Posted 7th November 2018 |

Not bad
Reviewed 8th July 2018 by Rebecca I ordered the seedlings in May as I was too late to sow my own sweet peas this year. Arrived in good condition, just starting to flower now. Hi-scent is a good strong grower and the flowers smell divine. Cupani is not as strong a grower as hi-scent but still good and flowering but scent quite light. Lilac ripple in my experience is a weak grower and much behind and shorter than the others, no where near flowering. This collection is not as good as the ultimate sweet pea collection which I grew before and will opt for next year. |
The best scent!
Reviewed 5th June 2018 by Hannah Lane I grew these for the first time this year. They began flowering early June and have filled the air with the most glorious scent. I will definitely be getting this collection again. |
