Sowing, Seeds, Planting | Agapanthus grow best in moisture-retentive soil in a site that receives sun for most of the day. On heavy soils, mix in grit when planting. Space 30cm (12in) apart with crowns 5cm (2in) below the ground. Agapanthus are well-suited to being grown in pots, which can then be brought into a conservatory or greenhouse for the winter. For containers use a good quality peat-free compost with slow release feed granules added, for long-term feed. You can also try planting into a pot and sinking into the ground; restricting the roots will encourage flower production. |
Care Tips | Feed with a high potassium fertiliser, such as comfrey pellets, monthly from spring until flowering. It may take two or three years for plants to establish before flowering really takes off, but after this they will grow in to long-flowering clumps. If clumps become too big, they can be lifted and split every four to five years. Overwinter with a dry mulch. If you are far north, we recommend growing these in pots so that you can bring them out of the frosts for winter. Protect against slugs and snails. |
Flowering | July - August with lush, green, architectural seedpods well after that. |
Vase Life | Excellent cut flowers and lovely seed pods too. |

They did not flower at all. Reply from the Sarah Raven Team:"Thank you for your review.
