Euphorbia amygdaloides is a completely invaluable plant for growing in a shady spot to brighten up a dark corner and for picking – by the bucket – for all your spring vases of flowers. We'd be lost without this in the cutting garden.
If I was only allowed to take one group of ornamental plants to a desert island I would probably take euphorbia. You never tire of their brilliant acid-green flowers and bold, strong shapes, they're excellent for arranging (if you pick with gloves on and sear the stem ends in boiling water) and are the perfect foliage foil to any flowery border. They are an absolute essential in my garden.
Please note: This plant is harmful if eaten, and is a skin and eye irritant, so please take care when handling.

Care Tips | They self seed freely but some will revert to the wild colour form. Pull out any seedlings with red stems if you want them to remain pure. There's just one word of warning with any euphorbia - pick it with your washing up gloves on. Its milky sap can cause an allergic reaction, particularly on a hot sunny day. |
