This is alive but hasn't flowered. Maybe it needs time to grow. The bed is shady and has quite sandy soil. Maybe it is not quite the right place??

In spite of "TLC" these have been disappointing; they have made very
little growth and one of them has lost a yellowing leaf.
Even now they are not large enough to plant out.
Wish I had taken cuttings from my old garden.

High hopes for a wonderful plant for flower, foliage and structural element in garden. First time I've grown it. Healthy plant in 9cm pot, potted on to 1litre, grew well, now in ground and doing fine. Patiently awaiting more height and flower spike but meantime happy with glossy foliage. So far, so good: expect to add a couple more next spring.

Wonderful fluorescent colour sits well with my tangerine and brown sugar dahlias. Arrived as a small healthy plant in good packaging.

Slow to get going but they are starting to produce healthy, glossy dark green leaves. I’ll just have to be patient. I cannot faulty the service from the Sarah Raven team. My plants were damaged by being posted through the porch window but were replaced without hesitation. Thank you.

Lovely plants, beautifully packaged, but only two out of three with a flower bed on the plant as yet.

Pay attention!

I paid proper attention to the planting instructions (once it's in, don't move it and give it lots of room). My 9cm plant has trebled in size and is growing really nicely. I have high hopes. It's planted in my shady garden next to a castor oil plant - they can fight it out with each other!

Lovely foliage no flowers!

Inspired by the pictures, I had bought this for a white border. Had some problems with wilting leaves which Customer services promptly replaced. They are planted with lots of grit and sunny position. Trouble is I have a lot of foliage..flowers though are a no show!

Reply from the Sarah Raven Team:

"Thank you for taking time to review our site. As you probably know, Acanthus put down a very long tap root and it is probably the case that this year the plant is doing this and from next year onwards it will start to flower. It is normally the case that the sunnier and hotter the summer and also the hotter the position of the plants , the better the following year's flowers will be, so hopefully next year you will have a lovely display from your plants.
If we can help you in any way please do contact our customer service team at info@sarahraven.com or by calling 0345 092 0283 and our team will assist you further.

Acanthus third year

Reviewed 30th May 2016 by Catherine Kemp

Just returning for it's third year. Love to watch the bees almost getting stuck as they fight to get inside and then back out of the flowers. Only bought one to trial but wish I had room for more. The "leaf span" is huge and therefore crowds other nearby shorter plants- give it loads of room!
