More Details

I love a William Morris wallpaper, and with these dahlias, I had one in my garden last year. They flowered July-November. Unbeatable.

This collection contains:

  • Dahlia 'Bacardi'
  • Dahlia 'Labyrinth'
  • Dahlia 'Totally Tangerine'
    • Our dahlias:

      • are first class, healthy tubers – the largest and best you can buy.
      • come with full planting, spacing and cultivating instructions for beginner gardeners
      • tubers should be potted up when they arrive and be kept in a light, frost-free place until the frosts are over and then be planted into the garden.

This can be gift wrapped in our exclusive hessian sack, with ribbon and a Sarah Raven gift card. You will be able to add this to your basket once you begin the checkout process. To add a gift message to your order, simply fill out the details at the delivery stage of the checkout.

Please note: only items which are showing ‘in stock’ can be gift wrapped.

Decorative Group

Broad and flat petals, normally bluntly pointed, with no central disc showing. Click here for more information about dahlia groups.

Variety Bacardi, Labyrinth, Totally Tangerine
Type Tender Perennial Tuber
Common Name Dahlia
Border Position Container, Middle
Bulb Size I
Soil Type Acid, Alkaline, Chalky, Clay, Fertile, Neutral, Sandy
Scent Unscented
Site Full Sun
Moisture Moist but Well-drained
Height 1.2m (3ft 11in)
Spacing Plant just under the soil surface, 75cm (30in) apart.
Sowing, Seeds, Planting Pot them up undercover March or early April in a generous pot (at least 2 litre) filled with multi-purpose potting compost. Place them in a light, frost-free place and keep the compost moist. Pinch out their growing tips when they have reached about 8" tall. They will have formed bushy plants by the time the frosts have ended and will be in flower by the beginning of July. If you don’t have anywhere to grow the potted tubers, you can put them straight into the ground when the frosts are nearly over, mulching them or protecting with a cloche or protective horticultural fleece if the foliage appears before the frosts are over, but this will delay flowering.
Care Tips Support with a stout stick, tie in every couple of weeks. In the south you can mulch deeply and overwinter them in the ground, alternatively, lift and overwinter your dahlias frost free undercover.
Flowering July - November
Vase Life Only pick dahlias in full flower. Recut the hollow stem ends under water to avoid airlocks.
Harvesting Flower production 5 months
Cooking Notes All dahlia flowers are edible. I use the petals scattered over salad and to decorate a range of puddings.

Most of the items I purchased were good and the jade vase was excellent - it's been a real winner this year for a variety of cut flowers. The zinnias have been lovely and I will buy them again. However the cleome are horrible! Lots of spines (I know it says so in the description) but also way too tall for pots and they attract a sticky bug. Aegean sweet pea mix is fantastic - long stems and lovely flowers. The biggest disappointment are the mixed cosmos. The seedlings were rather weak and they haven't flourished. I will go back to the lovely bipinnatus Purity next year as they always do really well. I purchased Bishops Children dahlia seeds at a talk by Sarah Raven 2 years ago. The first year they did very little but I overwintered the small corms in cold frames and this year they are fantastic in pots - worth persevering! Overall I'm delighted with the products you sell, which are always well packaged and in the main, do really well.

About half of my tubers developed, I was happy with how they grew in the green house but I've had terrible luck this year with snails so it's very hard to see the dahlias, only one variety, Bacardi, is thriving and these look beautiful, but the rest are just sticks without leaves, so no fault of Sarah Raven but I can't tell what they might have been like.

Plants arrived looking healthy, but I assumed that as they are a collection they would be flowering at same time. Only one is flowering and has been since delivery. However, although the other two look healthy, there are no buds on them yet at all. I noticed that they had had their tips removed before dispatch, presumably to help them bush out a bit

super fast service. My son bought me a couple of collections for mothers day. I Potted up and they grew beautiful in the greenhouse. The planted outside and they were devastated by the slug invasion. I bought some organic slug pellets in the hope they would come back & i'm pleased to say they all have. Just waiting to see if i'll get flowers from them this year.

Is it something to do with colour of the leaves?

I ordered these as tubers relatively late at the end of May 2018. After only 10 days in a pot of compost they'd already sprouted and I moved them to the garden. Now it's 16th August and all three are going strong and producing lots of flowers. I'd really recommend this collection for being healthy, reliable and low-maintenance.

Bacardi and Labyrinth not thriving

* * - - -

Reviewed 3rd July 2018 by Villu Lukk

Tubers arrived visually healthy, 2 of each. They were planted to the ground early May. Only 'Totally Tangerine' is growing well and is about to bloom now. 'Bacardi' and 'Labyrinth' are very weak plants, barely growing. One tuber of each cultivar never sprouted. Guess the William Morris Dahlia Collection display will be totally tangerine this year as the name of thriving plants suggest.

Will be a great Summer Trio...

Reviewed 27th June 2018 by Stevie Gavin

The Bacardi is stunning, The Totally tangerine is just coming into flower and looks equally as beautiful. Unfortunately the Labrynth did nothing at all which was a real shame as its the one i really wanted! However Im still looking forward to a good summer display!

Bacardi is yellow!

Reviewed 4th June 2018 by Sarah Cliff

I bought the set of six, two of each. Three are already out. One of the Bacardi plants has bright yellow flowers! The other Barardi is true to type, along with Totally Tangerine. Disapointing not to have a matching set in one corner. The yellow is quite an eyesore.

William Morris dahlia collection

Reviewed 4th September 2017 by Toni Abram

I purchased these dahlias for my mum as a Mother's Day present in 2017 but was taken with them myself also, so later ordered some for me.

We both began by planting them in medium sized pots and did not water them until they began to shoot. When they had some growth on, we transferred the three plants to larger pots, beween 12 - 14 inches wide, to which we added garden canes, 190cm in height I think, with cane toppers to form a wigwam for the dahlias to grow up.

All three varieties flowered for both of us, giving masses of flowers despite the wet summer and there were enough flowers for cutting and having on the kitchen window too. The plants grew at different rates, with Barcardi growing fast, Tangerine growing a little slower and Labryinth definitely taking its time. The latter was spectacular and like nothing I have ever grown in my garden before but dahlia Tangerine was my particular favourite and I would love to grow this again.

Thank you Sarah Raven.

Growing William Morris

Reviewed 18th August 2017 by Glynne williams

Great dahlias and new to me (which is good at my age!) Big Mistake though as I decided to plant all three in same pot to ensure I could keep them safely overwinter in warmed conservatory. Although your photo has them in the same bunch they actually grow differently - Baccardi very fecund for example. Next year I'll keep their cuttings separate! They'll be in ground or pots along with others I'll buy from you!

Failure of Bacardi

Reviewed 13th July 2016 by Rachel Silber

All 6 tubers delivered were rather small but had visible buds. I planted them all in the same compost, They all came into growth but after a few weeks it was obvious that Bacardi was not thriving. The tubers had rotted. The others are growing well and now beginning to flower. Not satisfactory.

Reply from the Sarah Raven Team:

"Thank you for your feedback, we are sorry to hear that you have experienced disappointing results from the Bacardi Dahlia tubers. Tubers rotting in the pots is a sign of over watering and some tubers are more susceptible to this than others, which would explain why some have thrived and some haven't. We would recommend watering them less next spring at least initially whilst they are setting down roots and haven't yet sprouted. If you contact our customer service team on 0345 092 0283 or by email at info@sarahraven.com, they will happily arrange for replacement tubers to be sent to you in the spring or alternatively, arrange for a full refund for those tubers that failed. Apologies again for the disappointment caused."
