More Details

A lovely blue, mauve and white collection. Beautiful and scented as they grow, and lovely together in a vase.

The seed packet contains a mix of the following three varieties:

The seedling collection includes 4 or 8 seedlings each of:

Genus Lathyrus
Group/Species odoratus
Type Hardy Annual, Hardy Annual Climber
Common Name Sweet Pea
Border Position Climber
Soil Type Fertile, Neutral
Scent Scented
Site Full Sun
Moisture Well-drained
Height 2m (6ft 6in)
Spacing Plant out, 2 plants to a vertical support, 15cm (6in) apart in a mild spell in March-May.
Sowing, Seeds, Planting Sow October-December or January-March, 2 seeds into 1 rootrainer. When roots fill container, pot on 2 seedlings together into a 1 litre pot. Pinch out tips when plants have 4 pairs of leaves. If autumn sown, overwinter in a light, cool place. Sweet peas often have quite a hard seed coat so it may help to soften the seed before sowing. To do this, place the seeds on some damp kitchen paper and pop them in a warm spot. Once the seeds start to swell or sprout they are ready to sow. If the seeds don’t seem to be swelling you can try making a small nick in the seed coat (opposite the ‘eye’) as this will help moisture enter the seed and kick-start the germination process.
Care Tips Remove the climbing tendrils as they grow. Tie the stem into your framework on a regular basis. Can be grown in deep container pots up a climbing frame. Find out how to cordon train your sweet pea in Sarah's how-to guide.
Flowering May - September
Vase Life 4-5 days. Avoid direct sunlight and heat. This has a beautiful scent.
Harvesting Keep picking as often as you can.

Strong plants and colours as expected. I have been able to pick fresh flowers every day the only disappointment is that after the first few cut the stems became very short although the original info stated long stems.

Seedlings were very green and healthy when they arrived. Wasn't able to plant for 4 or 5 days and they still survived. Living up in North East Scotland always dubious about seedlings from the south but these have been tremendous. Am cutting huge bouquets of flowers and will order again next year

Arrived very late and in very poor/dry condition. Have not done well, most dying almost straight away.

I sowed these seeds in spring as suggested, only four seeds germinated, they were all in the same area and compost. I planted them out and they have not performed well, to date they have produced about twelve blooms. I planted plants bought from a local greengrocer alongside and they have not stopped flowering. Very disappointing

Fantastic colours and scent - profusive - 2 Mrs Collins died. Seriously fed recently and tops cut down to encourage lower growth. Bunches picked regularly for mother's nursing home room and also the reception.

Lovely scent and have had some beautiful cut flowers. I’m not sure how long they’re supposed to bloom. They pretty much finished now.

Very poor germination. I was so disappointed. I asked around and others had poor germination with Sarah Raven sweet peas too. I tried with seed from a different company and was astonished by the difference and vigour of the seedlings. This is the second year in a row that Sarah Raven sweet peas have disappointed. I won't be buying them again.

Not brilliant, maybe my fault, plants looked great on arrival n partner made a proper trellis n bought wooden trough for them, but show was poor, v poor, hence won't be buying any more sweet peas, all other plants I've ever bought from SR have been usual brilliant standard

Loved the sweet peas and smelt heavenly and only problem was something a lot of people probably suffered from and that was our glorious summer. Sweet peas in the garden did a lot better than those in pots but managed to enjoy them anyway.

The seedlings grew into healthy plants with lovely scent and they are still flowering. I particularly like Hi-scent with its long stems and I prefer the colour of Noel Sutton to Lord Nelson which I have had previously. Mrs Collier, as I have found before, is a very prolific flowerer.

Not that many flowers but the ones I did have were beautiful. I think it was just too hot and dry for them this year!

I had hoped for a wide range of colours but had mostly pink with the occasional cream and one or two purple. The plants themselves were good with only 2 failing to grow on and were delivered in good time and very well packaged.

Reviewed 12th September 2018 by Jane

Some did better than others. Again they needed a lot of attention due to the hot weather and they were full of little black beetles so I couldn’t bring them indoors.

Reviewed 6th September 2018 by Helene

I was sent the wrong mix of plants. To be fair, the purchase price was refunded and the plants grew well_ sadly fitting rather awkwardly with the plants surrounding them and with each other in terms of colour.

Strong plants but disappointed with flowers which didn’t last as long as other years but maybe because of soil and extremely hot summer.

Reviewed 29th August 2018 by Mrs Bradford

They hardly flowered at all. Despite me watering them. I can only assume it was the very hot weather for so long.
