A lovely dark purple with yellow stamens which I have growing with Rose ‘Cerise Bouquet’.

It’s one of my favourite plant combinations in the garden. This comes into flower slightly later than other viticellas and keeps going for longer.

Sowing, Seeds, Planting Clematis prefer moist, well-drained soil with the base of the plant in shade and growth tips in light. Add plenty of organic matter to the soil before planting. Try mulching around the base to offer protection from heat and light. Will require support on a wall or in the border over which it can climb.
Care Tips Pruning group 3 - flowers on the current season's growth so cut back hard in early spring to a healthy pair of buds 30cm (12in) above the ground and apply a mulch of compost or well-rotted manure. Tie in new shoots to a trellis or other suitable support. Will benefit from a regular liquid feed throughout the growing season. Read Sarah's article for more information on how to prune clematis.
