Very reliable and long-flowering, covered in light blue flowers from late June until the end of August. Fantastic with climbing roses or, as you'll see it in my favourite garden at Great Dixter, growing up through shrubs. It also does well in a large pot.

Genus Clematis
Group/Species viticella x lanuginosa
Variety Prince Charles (syn. Modesta)
Type Climber
Border Position On a Climbing Support
Soil Type Neutral - Alkaline
Scent Unscented
Site Part Shade
Moisture Moist but Well-drained
Height 2.1m (7ft)
Spacing 1.2m (4ft)
Sowing, Seeds, Planting Clematis need moisture-retentive, but well-drained soil, in full sun or partial shade. Keep the base of the plant and the roots cool and shaded, by carefully positioning other plants, or put a layer of pebbles or flat stones at the base. Make sure you plant this with a method of support, and tie it in as it grows. This variety is virtually tendril-free, so won't entwine itself around an obelisk or trellis, you'll have to give it a hand.
Care Tips Pruning group 3 - flowers on the current season's growth so cut back hard in early spring to a healthy pair of buds 30cm (12in) above the ground and apply a mulch of compost or well-rotted manure. Tie in new shoots to a trellis or other suitable support. Will benefit from a regular liquid feed throughout the growing season. Read Sarah's article for more information on how to prune clematis.

I bought two clematis. One is doing OK but the other wilted straight away. With some coaxing it has revived but is clearly a very poor relation to the other. I am thinking of pulling it out and replacing it with a new one.

Delivered in great condition. Pale purple slightly cupshaped blooms.... Prince Charles flowered allmost continuously.
Not too tall and useful for scrambling over shrubs that have finished flowering.
I bought it in the 15% off sale which was an added bonus as it was the beginning of the season.

Arrived in good condition. Now growing nicely up the side of our house, still fairly small but to be expected at this stage. Lovely lilac/blue flowers.

Service and packaging excellent , disappointed with the colour of the phlox, I thought it would be more of a purple colour, not white with darker eye.

Mine was planted at the end of March against a pergola and has now reached six foot and is covered in beautiful blue flowers. I chose it because it is long flowering so look forward to many more weeks of flowers!

The clematis arrived in excellent condition, very well packaged and the care instructions were very easy to follow even for a novice like me. The clematis is growing very happily in my garden.
