Satin white, star-shaped flowers, with incredible scent. Montana varieties are the classic clematis to train up into trees to tumble down from above your head. They are quick-growing and vigorous, covered in flowers for late spring and early summer.

Sowing, Seeds, Planting | Clematis need moisture-retentive, but well-drained soil, in full sun or partial shade. Keep the base of the plant and the roots cool and shaded, by carefully positioning other plants, or put a layer of pebbles or flat stones at the base. Make sure you plant this with a method of support, and tie it in as it grows. This variety is virtually tendril-free, so won't entwine itself around an obelisk or trellis, you'll have to give it a hand. |
Care Tips | Group 1 - Tidy after flowering. Read Sarah's article for more information on how to prune clematis. This is a vigorous climber, and will need to be positioned against a wall or support, and is likely to need tying in. |

Service was brilliant and the plant arrived looking great though rather smaller than I had anticipated. Probably my not reading the description properly! I have had a lot of clematis and I know how to plant them up but within a few days of planting this one, all the leaves had been eaten. I went on watering it and shall continue to do so because it might come up again next spring. Another Wilsonii of mine did just that. But sad for this season and I fear in this case, it might be wishful thinking! It looks rather dead to me. |
Beautiful
Reviewed 6th June 2018 by Lisa Brown Another fantastic plant from Sarah Raven which arrived in perfect condition. My clematis was planted recently and is already growing beautifully. |
Stunning clematis
Reviewed 22nd June 2015 by Mick Garton After three years this wonderful clematis has established itself on an old 4-metre high stone wall, and cascades down including through a gap to brighten up both sides and fill the air with a delicious almond/spicy/sweet, irresistible fragrance. Planted at the same time as rambling rose Madame Alfred Carriere, the two have been flowering together over this wonderful old wall from mid/late May through to the end of June and will last another few weeks yet (in Edinburgh). A beautiful planting association, making a show-stopping impact, admired by passers by! Both plants fully live up to the glowing descriptions on the Sarah Raven site, from where it was purchased. |
