Sowing, Seeds, Planting | If you have a greenhouse, rooted cuttings of outdoor varieties can be potted on in early spring and grown on in a well-ventilated greenhouse or conservatory. When the roots have filled the pot, which should be around April, they can be potted on and moved to a cold frame. Plant into their final positions outside from early May, spacing them 45-60cm (18-24in) apart. Indoor varieties can be planted directly into soil beds in the greenhouse; space them 30-40cm apart and water in well. Alternatively, on arrival they can be treated the same as outdoor varieties. In early June, transplant into their final pots (20cm-23cm (8-9in) in diameter), and move them outside until around the end of September, at which point they should be moved into a frost-free greenhouse. |
Care Tips | After planting, water generously for 1-2 weeks so the plants get well established. Apply a balanced liquid feed every two weeks from midsummer until the flower buds start to appear. They will require supporting with a cane and tying in as they grow. After flowering, cut back the main stem to about 20cm (8in), lift the shortened plants and overwinter in a frost-free place. |

Reviewed 14th November 2018 by Cheryl this is my first year of growing a cutting garden - inspired by one of sarah's articles. what an amazing success from a novice ! i am still cutting the avignon pink crysanths - they are glorious and I would have no hesitation in recommending them. |
Reviewed 14th November 2018 by Elizabeth The cuttings grew on well and are still flowering. I love the colour and the shape and will definitely order more next year as they are a great addition to the autumnal garden |
Reviewed 10th November 2018 by Frances Easy to grow, masses of flowers in October but sadly they got frosted at the end of the month and do not have a green house. Would try again as great for Autumn colour. |
Reviewed 7th November 2018 by Monica The plants are about a metre tall. ideal for the back of the border and the colour is beautiful. I would describe it as coffee pink. Exquisite! |

Reviewed 31st October 2018 by Judy Arrived in good condition and followed the instructions provided. Later flowering than I xpected but think this is due to the weather conditions this year, as some of my other flowers were late flowering. Have picked two bunches so far off my allotment where they are planted. Now good strong plants and just hope can harvest more before the winter sets in. Would not hesitate to recommend if this is a colour you are looking for. |
Reviewed 31st October 2018 by Tina The plants were very healthy and well rooted, the notes about growing on were very useful! Foolishly I had not noticed they were indoor chrysanth's, but our excellent summer meant they spent a lot of time outside before mid September, and now they are in their pots in a bay window, with flower buds. I am anxiously awaiting the flowers! I gave two to a friend, who grew hers in the ground and left them there until last week, October 22nd before potting and taking into her greenhouse. She has flowers and loves them! |
Reviewed 31st October 2018 by Jackie Nice strong cuttings which have turned into huge healthy plants |
Reviewed 31st October 2018 by Beata I took my chances planted them outside and they just started to flower last week of October. Looking beautiful despite the few frosty nights and lower temperatures. We’re in Sussex and they’re in a sheltered spot in our garden. |
Reviewed 31st October 2018 by Sarah-Jane Great plants but not Avignon Pink, they are a pale peach, still beautiful, but not what was pictured or what I had last year. I know this can happen, but it can be frustrating. Reply from the Sarah Raven Team:"Thank you for your review. We are very sorry to hear that your Chrysanthemum has not flowered as expected. if you would care to contact our Customer services Team with photos at info@sarahraven.com they will be happy to look in to this for you."
