Care Tips | Interplant these in a patch at the front of your flowerbeds, or mix them up together for planting in a pot. The Ipheion flowers in autumn as well as spring. Grape hyacinths are very easy to grow and are brilliant for pots as well as flower beds. They will thrive inside or out in a sunny position but don't mind a bit of shade. I like the early foliage before the flowers, especially in pots, and the seedpods are good too, giving value wherever you grow them from March until June. |

Charming coastal colours
Reviewed 6th May 2018 by Heather I planted the 60 bulbs across two heavy duty dusky blue earthenware shallow 35 cm (ish) containers in a couple of layers, with lots of grit at the base as there was no drainage hole. It was a gamble that I thought I'd lost in March, wrongly assuming they'd been drowned or frozen. Turned out they just needed more sun and throughout Apr and now in early May they're in their prime. Although I'm landlocked, the blue and white shades remind me of the coast and the ipheion steal the show with their little white stars twinkling just above the muscari. I'm going to decant the pots lock, stock and barrel into the border and buy another pack this Autumn as I'm not convinced my luck will run another year with the same bulbs in the same pots with dodgy drainage. Thoroughly recommend - a doddle to plant up and a joy to behold. |
Joyful display
Reviewed 2nd May 2016 by Orla Falls I planted 2 of these in square planters - they've provided interest for months. Strongly recommend |
