The veg areas of Perch Hill are about super-production, not just for the summer months, but throughout the winter too. What are the plants you can grow through the cold, grey months of the year and which need more light and heat for late spring and summer harvests?

We concentrate on cut-and-come again crops - salad leaves, herbs and leafy greens plus the tastiest varieties (after much trialling) of tomatoes, peas, courgettes and beans. There will be lots of quick and easy veg based recipe ideas and tasters of what we're growing here. For us, this is not the entire story - the veg garden needs to look beautiful year round too, so we create patterns with different leaf shapes and colours of salad, plus will show you how to make the nicest looking veg supports and climbing frames.

The day lasts from 10.30am till 3.30/4pm including tea/coffee on arrival, morning tea/coffee break with home-made biscuits and a delicious 2 course lunch using fresh produce from the garden at Perch Hill.

A really worthwhile day!

Although I have had an allotment for 6 years I always felt that I wasn't getting the best out of it. Sarah certainly made me rethink how I need to go about planning and sowing and how to concentrate on growing the vegetables and herbs I use most frequently. The day was extremely well planned and the garden and food amazing. At the beginning of the day I said I had lost my 'mojo' and was beginning to lose interest in the allotment. This day rekindled my enthusiasm for veg growing.

I've been on several courses at Perch Hill and have always come away feeling both inspired and informed. The pace of the day is good - there's a good balance between talks and demonstrations. It's very helpful to know which varieties of veg do well and it's extraordinary useful to know what not to grow. Lunch -grown from the Perch Hill garden - is delicious, and the pots and plantings all around are inspiring. Equally good for beginners as well as more experienced gardeners who want to sharpen up their veg skills.

I had the most wonderful day. The format was great and the straight-forward, no nonsense approach to veg growing was exactly what I needed. The information pack supplied is very useful indeed. Lunch was absolutely delicious. I would recommend this course to anyone who knows a bit about gardening but finds veg a bit overwhelming. Thanks Sarah, a fab day!

Personally I really enjoyed this course and learned a lot. I have my own part time gardening business in South West London but know very little about growing veg and, having recently acquired a 10m x 10m plot of land, was very keen to learn more!

The course was very relaxed but packed with interesting info which Sarah adapted to the specific needs and experience of the group. I feel quite inspired now!

I enjoyed my day at Perch Hill very much. Every one there was lovely and so much effort had been made to decorate the conservatory where we had coffee and lunch.

Sarah was very generous with her knowledge and covered every thing clearly. I have come away inspired. The lunch, cakes biscuits were delicious and I so enjoyed my day. Thank you everyone for a memorable lovely day.
