Sowing, Seeds, Planting | Prepare your ground by digging in plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost and add a general purpose fertiliser. Measure out planting holes 35cm (14in) apart. Space rows 75cm (30in) apart. Dig out a hole large enough to accommodate the roots. Trim the roots lightly to 10cm (4in) if necessary, then spread them out in the hole. Ensure that the base of the crown rests lightly on the surface before firming in gently. Planting at the correct depth is important: if the crown is planted too deeply it will rot; if it is planted too shallowly the plants will dry out and die. Water the plants in well. If planting in the autumn or early spring, remove the first flush of flowers of perpetual strawberries. |
Care Tips | You can bring forward the cropping season by growing them in a greenhouse. Water regularly and weed. Protect from slugs and snails by spreading straw around each plant, and cover with netting to protect from birds. Find more tips on how to grow strawberries. |

Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Evelyn The purchase was disappointing. Most of one variety did not survive.. Customer service were very good at giving me money back but it did mean a season without the strawberries. |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Lucretia Nice healthy plants which are able to withstand fairly windy conditions |
Reviewed 19th September 2018 by Victoria Good strong bareroot plants. Slow to fruit and sparsely fruited this season but growing on strongly for next. |

Reviewed 29th August 2018 by Rose I ordered the pack, by the time they got to me they looked dead, they where replaced free of charge but the 2nd pack was as bad, . I was told to plant them all , which I did in my raised beds . Out of all the plants 3 plants survived, I had no fruit!!!!! Reply from the Sarah Raven Team:"Thank you for your review. We are very sorry to hear that your strawberries failed to grow and have refunded you for the collection." Posted 7th November 2018 |
Reviewed 29th August 2018 by Angela The collection consisted of 15 plants, of which none of the Honeoye survived for more than a week, despite being planted up as directed. The customer team were really helpful and replaced them but even these did not have a very good survival percentage. Don't want to sound too upset as I order lots from SR and the vast majority of stock is excellent. Reply from the Sarah Raven Team:"Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry to hear that your replacement strawberries have failed to survive and have refunded you for the collection back on to the card that you used when placing the order."
