Description
The new, improved form of our wildflower cornfield weed, Viola ‘Heartsease’. ‘Improved’ is a subjective word as often they aren’t, but Josie and I were both bowled over by this mini flower. It just kept going all through winter into spring, and in a sheltered spot even to summer. If you want a low- maintenance container plant for table centre pots or window boxes, this is it. Give it a fortnightly hair cut/dead- head with kitchen scissors and it will keep flowering.
Pick the flowers and scatter them onto salads.
Care Tips
Sow in a warm place in spring, summer or autumn (avoid the hottest months as above 20°C can prevent germination). Cover seed lightly. Pot on seedlings individually and grow on in a cooler place. Plant out when roots have filled the pots or modules.
