The most spectacular of the nigella family, with deep purple-blue petals and magnificent crimson crown seedpods. One of my top favourite plants.
Nigellas are the classic cottage garden annual which makes fabulous cut flowers and filler foliage for any vase. They dry brilliantly too.

Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Wendy I've planted these in a bed with African Bride and California poppies, again amazing healthy plants |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Helen Lovely healthy plants, their straggly nature enhanced other pots and I have some seed heads drying. |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Catherine Been looking forward to these, one pot of seeds out of three didn’t appear but I suspect something ate them, the rest are growing but even with pinching are a little spindly even for nigella and I’ve been reluctant to release them into the general free-for-all...plants have to be tough to survive in these parts...however if the colour is wonderful I will forgive all and not begrudge a bit of cosseting. |
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Geraldine None of the plants that grew from this seed packet were blue (they all came out white), However, wgen I explained the situation I was promptly offered a refund or replacement. |
Reviewed 14th November 2018 by Helen just poor growth, few flowers |
Reviewed 8th November 2018 by Gill Huge flowers - I'm hoping they will self seed |
Reviewed 12th October 2018 by Lnda These plants became rather leggy because I was in and out of hospital, but they still bloomed well when staked. Pretty flowers. |
Reviewed 11th October 2018 by Jane Did not thrive and rather droopy |
Reviewed 14th September 2018 by Hilary Pretty flower but rather a weedy plant needing support despite being quite short. Best grown from seed in situé, I think. |
Reviewed 3rd September 2018 by Mrs Watts Flowered nicely pretty seedheads |
Reviewed 3rd September 2018 by Mrs Chapman Have not grown these before - did OK but a little 'weedy' in appearance with fairly insignificant blooms - not quite as illustrated in the catalogue picture!! However, with the exceptionally hot - really violently hot sun I think this may well have contributed despite my faithful watering! Probably would not both again with this. |
Reviewed 2nd September 2018 by Margaret Lovely flowers but they didn't do too well where I put them. |
