Mirabelle's are the most beautiful little cherry plums with their origins in the heart of medieval France where they are renowned as the essential for the French classic “Tarte aux Mirabelle's”
The Cherry plum is a unique fruit not a hybrid of any other plum fruits, its uses are dual purpose, tart enough to cook well and when ripe tangy and sweet to be eaten fresh and even make a superb jam. The fruits conveniently have a way of telling you when they are ripe, with the golden skin starting to develop blush pink markings as sugar content increases towards the end of the summer.
The fruit are quite small and the stone in the centre is very loosely attached, which is handy when you are preparing lots of them for cooking.
