More Details

One of our most beautiful — and one of my long-standing favourite wild flowers for meadows and naturalistic containers.

Called ‘Fox and Cubs’, because of the rich colour of its flowers, surrounded by blood orange coloured cubs (or buds). A truly lovely and easy to grow British native, pretty, cut for a vase with cow-parsley and grasses.

Type Hardy Perennial
Common Name Fox and Cubs

Soil Type Alkaline, Chalky, Fertile, Neutral, Sandy

Sowing, Seeds, Planting Sow at any time. Cover lightly with compost, keep moist in a propagator or sow direct in summer. Some seeds may need a prolonged cold spell before they germinate the following spring. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into individual pots to grow on. Gradually harden off before planting outside. Will tolerate dry conditions and is happy in sun or semi-shade. It will slowly self-seed and is perfect for a wild garden or a rockery.
Care Tips Cut back after flowering. Will self-seed freely. Deadhead if you do not want it to spread.
