Decorating the house in spring is always rewarding and a great way to cheer up gloomier days.

Take inspiration Sarah and make your own beautiful spring table arrangement

step 1.

First, sear the stems of your fresh flowers to prolong vase-life by boiling them in water for 30-40 seconds. This is a top tip for prolonging the vase life of your arrangement, enabling it to last and last

step 2.

In a shallow bowl, create the structure of the centrepiece by layering little straight branches collected from your garden over one another in an eight-by-eight noughts and crosses grid. Space each ‘box’ evenly and tie together where they overlap. Place the branch grid on the top of the bowl. Add water, to about halfway.

step 3.

Make a base with the Pittosporum, the primary base foliage to create a sieve the flowers can slot into, and to cover the bowl’s base. Next, add the Hellebores, which will be held by the foliage and add more volume and heart. They are also free-flowing so it feels relaxed

step 4.

Next I move onto the flowers. I always choose at a minimum, three different flowers in a range of hues and textures at slightly different heights to create an abundant layered look. I choose my ‘bride’ Narcissus ‘Pink Charm’ as the showstopper

step 5.

I then follow up with a few ‘bridesmaid’ stems, in this case more narcissus, varieties borrowed from the same colour palette but not as dominant. Finally, introduce your ‘gatecrasher’ stems, in this arrangement, Polyanthus and primulas into the centrepiece. These provide all-important contrast and unbeatable wow factor
