I love Helleborus orientalis 'Pretty Ellen Spotted', which look as if their flowers have been freckled by a paint brush in the richest crimson.
Hellebores are brilliant for shade and if you cut these on a shortish stem and sear the stem end in boiling water, they make a glamorous cut flower.
Remove old leaves to make flowers more visible in spring. Will self seed gently.
