Once planted, it will pop up in all your shadiest corners to give dull patches brilliant glow. And I pick this to arrange with tulips by the bucket load. It’s a must for me.

You can harvest the young leaves and add them to salads or wilt them and eat them as you would spinach.

Best sown direct in June, rake soil to a fine tilth and sow thinly, space rows/seeds 30cm (12in). Cover seeds lightly with soil. Can sow indoors March-April. A period of hot-cold may help with germination. Plant out after the frosts.
