Description

This forager’s favourite is famed for its sprays of creamy-white, fragrant flowers which are wonderful for picking and using to make summer cordials and for flavouring cakes and puddings. The blooms are loved by pollinators and the dark, autumn berries are enjoyed by hungry birds and mammals.

Our UK grown hedging plants are supplied as cell-grown saplings ready for immediate planting into their final positions. Cell-grown plants are known to have high establishment success rates with rapid early growth and are uniform and compact in size for quick and easy planting.

As a guide, use 5 plants per metre length. When planting, set out in a zig-zag style to encourage a thick and bushy hedge.

  • Planting a hedge offers huge benefits to gardens of all shapes and sizes – Sarah’s top 5 reasons.
  • They look spectacular with varying leaf shapes, flowers, and fruits
  • Great for providing food, shelter, and nesting sites for wildlife
  • An excellent natural shelter from strong winds
  • Brilliant for helping with carbon capture, flood control and soil erosion
  • Cheaper and far more sustainable than erecting a fence

Care Tips

Medium sized hedging that can be easily clipped and maintained to 1.5m. Growth rate 30 - 60cm per year. After planting, prune hard, then prune annually to maintain shape and height – ideally in late winter when the hips have gone over.
