The garden at Ostler's Cottage

Posted in All posts, on

I just wanted to share a few snaps of the gorgeous garden I had the pleasure of staying next to on holiday last week! It's quite rare to stumble across a garden so full of brightly coloured flowers for cutting. The owner had taken several packets of Sarah Raven seeds, and added them to her patch and it was looking stunning in mid-September. So full of colour, and the butterflies and bees were in heaven!

The poppies were incredible, and the cleomes added amazing dimension and structure, along with the sunflowers and cosmos of course. I couldn't possibly name all the varieties in the garden, but I did love her approach - if she went shopping and saw something she liked, she'd grab the plant and add it in somewhere she thought would work - creating a very beautiful mishmash which worked incredibly well.

Even our own back garden was full of bright colour and bee friendly plants... verbena bonariensis, crocosmia (of which there's a lot in Devon, seen across the sides of roads), sedum, salvia, roses...

It added an amazing extra dimension to our holiday - staying somewhere so beautiful! It reminded me of the gardens at Perch Hill, but with a more relaxed cottage garden style - you can tell that the owner adores gardening, as she keeps a clock outdoors near the cut flower patch. She has also planted a wildflower meadow in some of the grounds too...

Ostler's Cottage was the perfect place to holiday for someone who loves pretty gardens as much as me! Fortunate chance that this was all outside of our door, as pictures of this weren't on the website when we booked...

What's the most beautiful place you visited this summer?

Thanks for reading!
