  • Comes with full planting and growing instructions

Genus Allium sativum
Variety Solent Wight
Type Hardy Annual
Common Name Garlic
Soil Type Fertile
Site Full Sun
Moisture Well-drained
Height 30cm (12in)
Spacing Split the bulb into cloves and plant these individually, each clove upright, with the flat base down and pushed into the soil to twice their own depth, spaced at intervals of 6in/15cm.
Sowing, Seeds, Planting Plant it outside from October - March. Traditionally you'll hear, it's planted on the shortest day of the year to be harvested on the longest and if you stick to somewhere near those dates, you'll be fine. Can be grown outside in container pots, kept well watered.
Care Tips Feed February to April with standard plant food. They need very little after care. Just nip off the flower bud if one appears and keep the area weed-free until the foliage turns yellow in mid summer.
Storing Gather the garlic in bunches of 6 bulbs, and hang to dry in a conservatory or glass house. Or, dry in store trays. If the weather is fine, they should be dry in about 2 weeks. This looks beautiful hung plaited in the kitchen.
Harvesting August - September. Harvest once 10% of the crop has "gone over".
Cooking Notes The more you chop garlic, the stronger it will taste. Enjoy using this to flavour a wide variety of savoury dishes. Why not enjoy it in a flavoured butter with barbecued sweetcorn?
