"My mother introduced me to the wonder of Sarah’s bulbs and tubers years ago. I always aspired to one day be able to grow them myself, and now finally have got around to planting my own garden with them. They’ve brought me, and my friends and family, nothing but pure joy".
YOUR GARDEN STORIES WITH
Savannah Miller
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO PICK THE VARIETIES IN YOUR COLLECTION?
They just bring me so much joy! I have always loved the combination of pinks with yellows and oranges. Tonally they really speak to my soul and there is subtlety and femininity in the softness of my collection that makes my heart sing.
HOW HAVE FLOWERS, FOLIAGE AND THE NATURAL WORLD INFLUENCED YOUR WORK?
A lot, particularly this coming season. I found myself spending a lot more time in the garden this year and have found particular inspiration in the dahlias. I very often find myself dumbstruck with the absolute magnificence of them. I have really enjoyed trying to infuse my collection with that three dimensional component and it’s a whole new area for me to explore as up until now, for the most part, my collections have been quite minimal.
TELL US ABOUT SAVANNAH MILLER BRIDAL?
The Savannah Miller bride values understated, effortless elegance. She wants to look and feel like the best version of herself on her wedding day and be comfortable but also breathtakingly beautiful. I try to work with really sensual fabrics to ensure that the experience is also a tactile one for the bride and her partner. Timelessness is a really important part of my design process because I don’t want my brides’ photos to date quickly or be too trend led. I pay attention to trends but only gently. Femininity and romance are the guiding principles for me.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE FLOWERS FOR WEDDINGS?
It entirely depends on the season and the style of wedding but generally speaking, I like things to look a bit wild and abundant, as if they’ve just been gathered from the garden or hedgerow.
WHAT'S YOUR EARLIEST GARDEN MEMORY?
I remember running through tall grass in our garden in Long Island in the baking hot summer sun with grasshoppers in my hands. I have always loved absolute immersion in nature and when I was a child it was so tangible that I didn’t know where I ended and where nature began.
DESCRIBE IN THREE WORDS YOUR GARDEN AESTHETIC?
Wild, romantic and cottagey.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE WAY TO BRING THE OUTDOORS IN?
I try to do it all year by gathering whatever is in season outside, even the autumn leaves and beautiful sculptural bare branches. We live in an old mill house packed with children and animals that really is straight out of a story book, so I never feel precious about it getting a little wild inside as well.
