Spectacular Pots and Containers with Sarah Raven at Rutland Nursery, Oakham

On this day course with Sarah she will teach you all she knows about creating colourful, bold and beautiful pots for your garden. Whether you’ve got a tiny garden or substantial, pots can be it’s heart and highlights, come and learn how to make them glorious (with tons of ideas for bulb lasagnes too). Learn all about how Sarah and the team produce the containers at Perch Hill Farm of which there are currently 400, huge, large and small.

Together with Josie, head gardener at Perch Hill, she tests and trials a great range of container plants year on year and has done now for 10 years. Sarah starts by taking you through her colour theory, moving onto recipes for pots for all times of year using her favourite container plant choices. Whether it’s with tulips and wallflowers in spring or dahlias, annuals and perennials for summer and autumn, the day is jam-packed with ideas for pots for any site and situation, grand or small, sun or shade. You’ll get it all. In the afternoon Josie will also give practical advice including how to deal with squirrel marauders, as well as a demonstration of how to produce successful bulb lasagnes.

• This course is taught by Sarah with assistance from Josie, her head gardener. It is a lecture with slides format, with some practical demos with Josie. You will get a course hand-out covering all the information Sarah teaches on the day

• The day lasts from 10.30am until 3pm - including tea/coffee on arrival (from 10am for 10.30am prompt start), morning tea/coffee break and a lunch too
