Arthur’s decoration tips for a small table
Honesty seedpod arrangement
- Arthur likes to use dried and shelled honesty seedpods to decorate the table
- Next, he fills a ‘Nero Vase’ with sand - the sort you might buy from a pet shop for a birdcage
- Arrange your honesty seedpods in the vase. Arthur likes to position his to the winter sun hits the arrangement, which creates a striking statement
- Remember – if you put dried stems in a vase of water, they’ll go mushy. Sand is a better option as it helps to weigh the vase down
Additional decorative ideas from Arthur
- Pineapples in the centre of the table and scattered chocolate coins will go down a treat!
- Don’t stick to the rule book. Go for small vases of Panicum capillare 'Sparkling Fountain' – a glamourous addition to any table
- Arthur dresses his Sparrmannia Africana in cobwebs of copper fairy lights and silver birch sticks – like a living Christmas tree
- Sidoides in classy terracotta pots look gorgeous in the centre of the Christmas table
Stunning ways to display candles
- Sarah uses an apple corer to create a gulf in a pomegranate, a quirky and fun way to anchor candles on your Christmas table. Simple and sweet, you can also replicate this with an orange stuffed with cloves for fragrance. The fruit lasts 5-6 days without looking tired
- Display alongside single stems of Anemone Coronaria, or Amaryllis ‘Mandela’ – dark and decadent
- Arthur loves mossy green tones and Venetian reds when it comes to candles. He suggests displaying them coloured glass, inspired by the Notre Dame Cathedral
A stylish hanging decoration
A natural and sustainable disco ball
- Arthur moulds chicken wire into a sphere, about the size of a football
- Next, he attaches rope, a battery pack of copper-wired fairy lights, and stuffs the sphere with heads of Allium ‘Cristophii’
- For the finale, he adds some shelled honesty seedpods. Stunning.
- If you’re planning to reuse your allium heads next year, don’t forget to wrap them separately in tissue before storing them. This will prevent them from getting tangled up
