This traditional dye plant has towering and puffy clouds of yellow-green in spring with glamorous, shiny, ebony seedpods which store in dried arrangements for years. Currently a very fashionable plant, all over the Chelsea Flower Show gardens.

Sowing, Seeds, Planting Soak the seed before sowing to remove the inhabiting chemical that creates dormancy. Lightly cover with soil and water well. Plants prefer an alkaline soil, this can be created by working lime into the soil.
Care Tips Like other plants of the cabbage family, woad plants are susceptible to club root. Do not plant where other brassicas have been grown. Deadhead or cut to prevent self-seeding.
