Moluccella laevis (Bells of Ireland) has tall spikes of fresh apple-green bells arranged all the way up the stem. An outstanding foliage plant.

One of my favourite plants for summer and autumn arranging. Put the seed in the freezer for a week before you sow it to guarantee good germination.

Height 60-90cm (24-36in), if staked
Spacing 40cm (16in) after last frosts
Sowing, Seeds, Planting Place the seed in the freezer a week before sowing. Sow under cover in mid spring. Pot on and plant out after last frosts. Can be direct sown in early May.
Care Tips The stems should not need staking, unless in an exposed position in high winds.
Flowering June - September, 12 weeks from sowing
Vase Life 7 days. This dries brilliantly. Remove foliage around bells.
Harvesting Flower production: 4 months.

I grew these once for a dried flower crop. They were gorgeous! However, I must disagree strongly with the description which says, "UNSCENTED". I found that these have the most fantastic fresh, zingy scent ever! That alone is a good reason to grow these.
