For those who find the winter a difficult season to get through, snowdrops in the green are a must in your garden. They are one of the very first things to emerge and one of the loveliest New Year vases to have at your bedside.

Galanthus nivalis is the straight-up, wild species snowdrop, with silvery-green leaves and neat, slim flowers. Quick to get established if lifted and divided in the green (when it is in active growth and even flowering) on almost any soil, in sun or partial shade.

Spacing Plant 10-15cm (4-6in) deep, 10cm (4in) apart.
Care Tips Propogate them by dividing clumps in late summer or by seed sown in autumn. Add plenty of leaf mould to the site. Find out about different ways of planting snowdrops.

Beautiful Snowdrops

Ordered both double and single snowdrops in the green last year and planted them under a magnolia tree - with the help of my 6 year old granddaughter. They have just appeared, a lovely sight which I hope will improve each year as they increase. Very pleased!
