Sowing, Seeds, Planting | Sow in autumn in gentle heat and overwinter seedlings somewhere cool and bright or sow in spring. Prick out and pot on before planting out in late spring. |
Care Tips | Pick or deadhead regularly. Like all annual scabious, this flowers for even longer if you cut it back hard in the middle of it’s flowering season, reducing the plants by a quarter. In two weeks, the whole lot will be covered in flower and bud again to flower on through autumn. I’ve picked a bunch of these on Christmas Day. |
Flowering | June - August, 10-12 weeks from spring sowing |
Vase Life | They will look good for up to 7 days. |
Harvesting | Flower production: 4-5 months, if picked regularly. |

Reviewed 2nd August 2019 by Lorna Last year I bought 5 Black Cat seedlings, four of which were white. 15 of the seedlings I raised this year from seed were also white - considerable stock and quality control problems this year with usually reliable SR, and I notice I’m not being asked to comment on stock plants and replacements that were not up to standard. |
