Snowdrops

Snowdrops are the natural harbingers of spring and no garden should be without them. Whether you plant them in huge drifts through grass, dotted in pots by the back door or in glowing groups in the border, they bring a lift to the garden when so little else is happening. Plant your snowdrop bulbs in autumn or in the spring as bulbs in the green. Choose from naturalised, wild snowdrops (Galanthus nivalis), double varieties like 'Flore Pleno' or the early-flowering G. elwesii, which will flower in January. For natural looking drifts, scatter your snowdrop bulbs across the planting area and plant them where they land.
