Sowing, Seeds, Planting Clematis need moisture-retentive, but well-drained soil, in full sun or partial shade. Keep the base of the plant and the roots cool and shaded, by carefully positioning other plants, or put a layer of pebbles or flat stones at the base. Make sure you plant this with a method of support, and tie it in as it grows. This variety is virtually tendril-free, so won't entwine itself around an obelisk or trellis, you'll have to give it a hand.
Care Tips Pruning group 3 - flowers on the current season's growth so cut back hard in early spring to a healthy pair of buds 30cm (12in) above the ground and apply a mulch of compost or well-rotted manure. Tie in new shoots to a trellis or other suitable support. Will benefit from a regular liquid feed throughout the growing season. Read Sarah's article for more information on how to prune clematis.
