More Details

An extraordinary, yet beautiful dwarf daffodil, with highly-cut petals like a child's home-made tissue paper star. It's one of my all time favourites, invaluably early to flower.

Genus Narcissus
Group/Species Species
Variety Rip Van Winkle
Type Hardy Perennial
Common Name Daffodil
Border Position Front
Bulb Size 10/12

For more info on bulb sizes, click here.

Soil Type Acid, Alkaline, Chalky, Clay, Fertile, Neutral, Sandy
Scent Scented
Site Full Sun, Part Shade
Height 15cm (6in)
Spacing Plant pointy end up, 10-15cm (4-6in) inches deep with three to four inches between each bulb.
Care Tips Plant anytime from August - November. They are very tolerant bulbs.
Flowering February - March
Vase Life Narcissi make great cut flowers lasting up to a week in the vase. I love them jumbled up in large jugs on the table. Be careful mixing with other flower types as their stems give off a compound that is toxic to other flowers and soak their stems in warm water before displaying to stop the 'goo' from running out.

The Cinderella of green manures

Phacelia tancetifolia is a wonderful annual flowering plant that deserves to be used much more often, both in the garden and allotment.

From photos I thought these looked a little mad and in reality have found them to be a delightful surprise. I planted them around a mahonia Soft Caress. Their petals complement the mahonia leaves and this spot now draws the eye in its sprightliness. These narcissus are like small fizzy fireworks. A total joy! I will want more next year.
