Favourite Perennials: Salvia 'Amistad'

Salvia Amistad is one of my absolute top favourite plants at the moment and I'm going to pick this one just to be able to wax lyrical about it. It has this indigo black blue stem and the calluses and then these incredible blue-purple classic sage or salvia flowers which are as you can see loved by all pollinators but particularly bumblebees so it's fantastic.

It likes a sunny spot with good drainage but some goodness in the soil as well, otherwise it just doesn't seem to be picky. In fact we've got it in bits in partial shade and it's thriving perfectly well there too.

It flowers from June until December, it's a so-called tender perennial but it's overwintered here fine, it's an absolutely cracking plant. You can mix it with anything, we've got it with roses, we've got it in the cutting garden with tithonia the other lovely velvet orange flower. It's a marvel!
